I am 25 and currently live in England. My closest (and only) friends live in the states. I travel to them for a few weeks each year but I would like to move out there and be with them - as the travelling is getting to be a bit much and very expensive.

I did not do well in school and have been working in a customer service job for the same clothing company for 5 years. I don’t have any commitments here and can just pack up and leave at anytime, really.

My friends are moving out in a few months and have said I can move in and live with them (they’ve been begging me to move to the states for years). So I will have somewhere to live when I get there.

I will be visiting them again in April for 3 weeks. 1 week in Colorado and 2 weeks in Nebraska. Nebraska is the state I would be moving to.

How could I make this possible? Would it be best to do a working visa or is there another visa type I should apply for?

Is this plan realistic? Asking because my GF is American, and I’m Hungarian but just because we want to move back to the US I wouldn’t marry her yet, not the best reason to marry someone to get a green card.

Frankly its a bad call to move to be with friends, sure you are only 25 now but once everyone pairs up and gets married you’ll never see them

Very very accurate, that’s exactly what I saw happening around me and around all the people I know and have talked to about this. Not worth moving to another country just for friends.

Don’t move to the states as a person who will be working customer service jobs, they don’t come with health insurance and there is no NHS.

Without being a person who can get a work visa, the only path is really to marry one of your friends if by “friends” you mean “with benefits” but if it’s just platonic there is no chance.

    Make local friends.

There are millions of Americans working in customer service jobs who have health insurance.

Your best bet is your buddies fixing you up with an american whom you can marry for a greencard. Also sign up for the greencard lottery thing. In the meantime dont get addicted to drugs or get arrested or become afflicted by a mental illness, and do not overstay your allowable time per year in us.

How does one move to the states and become “afflicted with mental illness”?

Respectfully, this is your third post on this, all of which are genuinely unhelpful and making the states look worse than it is.

      don’t get addicted to drugs

Each state has its problem but dang. All you had to say was “be safe”, not tell them to not move because their friends will pit up and leave them.

You have this context, this post. No idea what this person is living or experiencing. Moving countries such as that is already hard enough without telling this poor 25 year old that moving 4000 miles is a waste because their friends will leave them.

I do agree with not staying over your visa.

No way. You’re not going to qualify for any immigrant visa.

Your best bet outside of finding a US citizen spouse is the Diversity Lottery, if you even meet the requirements for that. And the chances of winning are so small, it’s not wordt getting your hopes up.

I don’t recommend asking Reddit but if you do, ask a more appropriate subreddit.

At the end of the day, you will have to do the work yourself to see what you could do to come for a while and stay.

Everything is an adjustment and visiting one place is very different from living there. Check out what’s the max amount of time you could stay and, if you can, try and stay in Nebraska for the max time. Rent an air bnb by yourself. Fully emerge yourself the best you can and do things solo! You won’t have friends around 24/7, which means be on your own can be quite lonely.

When I made a big move, I told myself one year. I had to stay one year (unless shit went sideways) and then I could decide if it was for me. A decade later and I LOVE it.

America is a lot more expensive than the UK. If you have no savings / on a minimum wage job you’d struggle

You sound like you have no special qualifications/skills to qualify for a visa

The reality is, you are not moving to the USA anytime soon.

Why not try? Americans are the most annoyingly admirers of British people and accents. If you can sort out your visa, you’ll find more nutty people that will let you do anything you want with that accent. We’re crazy like that.
