I am 25 and currently live in England. My closest (and only) friends live in the states. I travel to them for a few weeks each year but I would like to move out there and be with them - as the travelling is getting to be a bit much and very expensive.

I did not do well in school and have been working in a customer service job for the same clothing company for 5 years. I don’t have any commitments here and can just pack up and leave at anytime, really.

My friends are moving out in a few months and have said I can move in and live with them (they’ve been begging me to move to the states for years). So I will have somewhere to live when I get there.

I will be visiting them again in April for 3 weeks. 1 week in Colorado and 2 weeks in Nebraska. Nebraska is the state I would be moving to.

How could I make this possible? Would it be best to do a working visa or is there another visa type I should apply for?

I don’t recommend asking Reddit but if you do, ask a more appropriate subreddit.

At the end of the day, you will have to do the work yourself to see what you could do to come for a while and stay.

Everything is an adjustment and visiting one place is very different from living there. Check out what’s the max amount of time you could stay and, if you can, try and stay in Nebraska for the max time. Rent an air bnb by yourself. Fully emerge yourself the best you can and do things solo! You won’t have friends around 24/7, which means be on your own can be quite lonely.

When I made a big move, I told myself one year. I had to stay one year (unless shit went sideways) and then I could decide if it was for me. A decade later and I LOVE it.
