Some cultures are very gregarious and lively. They like loud music, speak to each other loudly, etc.
Which cultures have you found to be more reserved? Not necessarily cold or rude, just not as loud in public?

France. People use their library voices everywhere here. People also tend towards being more reserved with strangers, though not unfriendly.
Until you try to speak French then you get yelled at for not doing it properly.
/s…no wait, almost everyone has the same story
I suppose I’ve been lucky. People have been nothing been kind and patient with my attempts at speaking French.
I wish all the street harassers had library voices.
It’s like they broadcast their stream of consciousness and it’s just everything they would do to girls or think girls should do. Source: growing up French
I live in the countryside in the south and have never spent much time in the cities. That sounds extremely shitty.
there was once my friend and i were in a hair salon. he was speaking to me in a normal voice and the hairdresser told him to shut up as the other customers are disturbed 😂
French here, and I agree, we’re not on “japanese” level but we are fairly quiet. It’s bad manners to be loud here especially in public transportation and museums for example. Also french is a somewhat “flat” language with so it’s easy to be quiet, compared to let’s say mandarin or english.
Yeah people have big issues here if you are talking loudly on public transport. It’s just one of those unspoken rules that you should be quiet.
Have you been to France or are you French to publish this statement ? It’s 100% false French people are loud.
I’ve lived here for a few years. Am not French myself. Maybe it’s a regional thing. I’d say it might also be relative as the other countries I’ve lived in are known to be particularly loud but people are genuinely very quiet in public here. They practically whisper in indoor public spaces.
It doesn’t sound like you visited the south of France though :) ‘cause I have to say the contrast with your description is sharp (I prefer quiet tbh, but that’s not how it is there)
I live in the south, I’ve barely been anywhere else for more than a few weeks at a time.
