You can get ADO down there cheap. Go hang out one weekend and see what you think.
I much preferred PDC over Tulum.
I use Google voice,.one time of $20
Antalya was great. Bonus points if you want to learn Russian.
Question to ask would be can your make Roth contributions. If you are earning less than $120k your income tax is going to be zero. So making Roth and paying all the tax today and none when retired would be ideal.
It’s great, for about 2 weeks
only want to stay for 6 months
Have you been to Malta before? Tiny Islands, most people are bored after 2 weeks.
I sent them to a friend in the US that was planning to meet me when in Colombia. The flight for them from Florida was stupid cheap.

I certainly would not expect Thailand to be more expensive than Philippines.
Certainly lots of locals in PH are living in $100 a month apartments, but if you want AC and Internet you are spending significantly more. BGC, Makati, Cebu City where most DN would stay seem much more expensive than BKK or Chaing Mai.
Similar story for Thai vs Pinoy food.
Cuba at nearly $5k seems inaccurate.
Offical exchange rate is 24:1 USD. But real life was 80 last time I heard. This may be the problem.
If you own a car, car camping around the state lands and national parks would totally be doable.
I did a 2 month road trip. Fuel is cheaper in US than muxh of the world. Groceries too. Restaurant food has gone way up with inflation.
Problem is you can’t really buy a car as a foreigner. And renting one for 3 months is going to be insane.
Van, campers rentals were expensive when I looked in 2019. Cheaper to stay in a hotel. I can only imagine now after the COVID hype how expensive they are.
Hostels aren’t really a thing in the US, so finding a place to sleep for under $50 a night is a challenge
I was surprisednto see Taco Bell in Kuala Lumpur, it was kind of a b

"What if I’m not at home?
Personal property doesn’t have to be in your home to be protected by your policy. Your coverage travels with you — whether you’re enjoying the vacation of your dreams or running weekly errands."
You are correct that travel insurance is basically pointless. The default limits I have seen in plans are $500 per item, $1500 total. Or you can pay a bunch to double these. But that clearly won’t cover full value of camera or laptop.
I have the State farm plan. You send them SN and receipts for all the items and the plan cost is based on their value. Mine for $8k of stuff is $200 per year.
Never made a claim to know how difficult it would be to get them to actually pay.
