been in PDC for a month, ready to move on! my stay is up tuesday, here are my options:
bacalar (can you work remotely here though) merida (there’s an overnight ado bus, 12a-5a, is it timely and reliable though? or is it similar to most LATAM buses and it’s an estimate with lots of stops) or tulum (it’s close to here, but is it worth it?)
let me know your thoughts!
I have a full video about Tulum for digital nomads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc1s-e178bw
I love Tulum! It’s really beautiful, and has many great outdoor activities. I can’t speak to the night life as that’s not my thing, I’m more into trying new foods, hiking, sightseeing and snorkeling.
Definitely. Probably the best nomad destination in LATAM.
Now that’s a hot take.
Piping hot.
CDMX, Merida, Medellin, Oaxaca, and Buenos Aires have stormed into the chat.
You can get ADO down there cheap. Go hang out one weekend and see what you think.
I much preferred PDC over Tulum.
I have been to all of them.
If I should choose, I would pick Merida, it is very local, bigger than Tulum and there is always something going on.
Bacalar would me my second choice, very quiet, small, but it has its charme.
Tulum, I didn’t like it much personally, I would go there for a week to explore the cenotes (some of them are very nice) and the ruins.
Buses in my cases were quite on time.have you worked from bacalar? i’m worried about the internet speed there, but i’m leaning towards mérida
Bacalar is magical, but internet depends where you stay. I worked remotely for a month there. Most of the lagoon front hotels have spotty internet but fiber optic has been extended to the town, but a few blocks away from the lagoon…. Our airbnb had fiber optic, I had no issues. If you go just ask wherever you decide to stay.
Neither, hop on a flight to Mexico City instead
i am making my way up there! let me know your recommendations :)
When I found the amazing wild beach at the Southern part of Playa (a bit outside of the city) then I decided to stay there longer. The best place in the whole Riviera Maya IMO. Maybe moving does not worth it?
I’ve never been but my spidey senses tell me to avoid it in favor of other destinations. I’m sure it’s a great time though. It’s what you make it after all.
I’ve only been to Tulum as a tourist, but my wife and I DN’d in Belize for 7 months and we’ll definitely go back. We particularly liked Caye Caulker, Hopkins, Belmopan, and San Ignacio. Stay away from Belize City. The culture, the history, the food, the rainforest, if you’re not fascinated then you’re not paying attention. And affordable, did I mention affordable? The touristy places like San Pedro and Placencia are fine but expensive, so we hung out in the places I mentioned. As long as you’re that close you could do a lot worse than a stint in Belize.
My wife and I both worked from Bacalar for a month in March. No issues. The lagoon is really nice. Quiet town.
