I experience this all the time especially as a woman coming from a patriarchal Asian culture. Despite the fact that husband and I live happily independently, relatives always like to say “where is he? Why is he not coming with you?” Like there’s something wrong. It is annoying, but I remind myself they have different value systems and I have learned to ignore them. Husband does join occasionally and only for special occasions like my brother’s wedding or coming to see me when we did long distance for a short while. We are both happy making the most of our time apart so that we can treasure our time together.
