I’m pretty shocked they haven’t figured it out yet- flights are expensive enough without booking last min! My family somewhat “expects” it as well. I’m from OR and living in NL. The best you can do is be honest- it’s not going to work out this year. But you may soften the blow by sharing when you think you’ll be able to visit next. Good luck!
