In my opinion no. I was constantly worried about violent crime and active shooters, the cost of childcare, private school university, home prices, healthcare, and nursing homes.
I worked too much and there was never enough money.
I simply do not need to worry about any of it since moving to the EU.
The U.S. sounds right for you. One of the lower taxed countries in the OECD. However you would be hard pressed to find a higher standard of living than Denmark.

What you should do is file amended tax returns for the years you made errors. Also I do not believe pensions qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion.

Taxes are different everywhere. Figure out where you want to go then worry about taxes. Generally you will pay taxes where you live. Then you file a return in the U.S. if you will take a tax exemption or credit depending on your finances. Most people do not owe in the U.S. when living abroad because generally taxes are higher in other developed nations.
