Germans turn off the A/C during a heatwave.
Why? That seems to defeat the purpose of an AC

when a group of young lads (even teenagers) are approaching
Are groups of teenagers in Europe often considered violent/harassing?
Isn’t Korea the Irish of Asia?
I’m sure Canada will be much much better than where you are currently at. Please do not let other Redditors discourage you. Other Redditors here are being extra whinging. No country is perfect
You must be selectively reading the comments then. US gets some praise here for sure, but the majority opinion is quite negative.
I guarantee you if you post “should i move from western Europe to the US?” on this sub, the majority of the comments will be against or neutral, minus for some temporary career reasons for certain professions, perhaps. Very few will be pro.
Where in the US do you live? The northeastern cities are better at being less car dependent than a place like southern California or Texas
You are technically correct, but the reality is that money can get you the lifestyle and environment you want. It’s better to be rich in the US than to be poor or lower middle class in Europe
Just be aware that this sub has an anti -US and anti-Anglophone world bias, due to the nature of Reddit. So please get some perspectives outside of this subreddit
I think OP is just relocating his mother there since she needs a care taker. If that’s the only place his mother can go to (family reunion), then I don’t think he has much choice besides Canada tbh. I would advise OP to go to Canada if that is the only place his mother can relocate to
Zoom meetings with Americans be like:
“Just wanted to recognize and give a shoutout to panasch for helping me on [insert task] last week! You are a rockstar! Thank you!”
Surprised this is upvoted on this sub. I expected it to be downvoted for Americans “being fake”
What state do you live in? Some blue states have abortion laws that are way more lax than most EU member countries.
I moved from Norway to the United States. A move which is already controversial in this sub.
I hate that this is considered controversial on this sub. Different people have different wants and preferences, and as long as you are happy, that’s all it should matter. I don’t get why people here are so judgemental about countries that other people move to and from.
She’d not be center left in the US. You have a very skewed view of US politics if you think that
Can I ask why France is a difficult place to live for expats?
I’m always surprised by how much French and British accents I hear whenever I am in LA but I guess what you wrote makes sense.
I think it’s just a euphemism for not having a long history, which is a bit unfair imo.
A lot of Latinos are Catholics and you have to remember that the Southwest was annexed by US from Mexico so there have been Latinos living in Southwestern states like Texas or Arizona since the middle or late 19th century. The culture is deeply ingrained there so it’s pretty easy for new Latinos/Latinas arriving in the US to settle. Not to mention Puerto Ricans (who are born US citizens) are spread all over the US and have been for a very long time, since PR became US territory
Yeah it’s really weird. You see this in other groups in other countries too. I’ve heard from my colleagues from India living in the US say that Indian Americans can be even more conservative than the average person in India.
Look at violent crime stats of Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo and compare them to London, Paris and Berlin. Per capita, Asia is much safer. The “sketchy” areas of the Asian cities feel like Disneyland compared to the sketchy areas of Paris and Brussels, from my experience.
