This is key. There’s a big difference between public and private in Japan.

I agree about Poland, works much better and quicker than the UK equivalent, in my experience.

Absolutely. There’s a politeness you feel when out and about in public in Japan, but Japanese people can actually act pretty coldly to you as a foreign tourist.

Social insurance gets pretty high for self-employed after a couple years though.
