I am living in the Philippines and i want to get it off my chest. I dont belong here; for my 30 years of existence I finally concluded I don’t belong in this backward country. At first I thought it is just my province but i lived in different parts of the country and they are almost all the same, although people in southern region are worse than my hometown; a shthead head guy literally said to me “go back to china”; southern Philippines looks different from people in northern region. Us in central and northern luzon looks more similar to east asians even if we dont have chinese ancestry. Their backward thinking, bigotry, green eyed monsters, racism, crab mentality etc I can’t stand it anymore. They are only nice to non Filipinos but if you are Filipino they will not hesitate to show their rotten attitude to you.

This country is also a prison like country; almost the same as NK; there are lots of cases where they dont allow filipinos to travel outside of countries and cases where the immigration staffs are extorting or stealing items from the passengers. Your best shot is if you have relatives overseas. Since I didn’t like it here I tried to apply for work overseas; there are employers who are interested in me BUT here is the problem, they cannot hire me unless THEY PAY an agency in the Philippines. Thats the rules in Philippines, a good business owner knows it is a waste of money; why they need to pay an agency if they can hire a local. Its the reason why the stereotype that Filipinos are maids or nurses or factory workers only. Because the professionals cant leave the country for work because of that stupid rule.

I am still not losing hope; I believe someday I can leave this country and find a place where I truly belong

When I lived in the Philippines - working in Manila - I knew a few filipinos that were transferred to overseas branches of the foreign corporate they were working for. One went to Singapore, one went to the US and the other two went to Aus. The thing they all had in common was working for an international corporation.

I feel you though, I couldn’t hack living in the Philippines long term, so bailed after a couple of years. Fantastic place for partying though.

I just watched a video about a Filipino teacher who got a work visa to the US. She did have to take a job in rural Colorado though. Not sure if that’s helpful. But I wish you well.

Probably rural Colorado is a nicer place than Denver. Certainly better to integrate as a good Christian 😅.

There was a joke my USAF friend told me. What’s the difference between Thais and Filipinos. The Thais will let you take a legit taxi to your hotel shit shower and eat and they’ll hustle you once you walk out the hotel doors. The Filipinos will hustle you from the airport.

Sad thing is I live in South Korea and a lotta the Filipinos hate Koreans yet they live in Korea? Don’t understand that logic.

I concur with your assessment - unfortunately there are no easy answers, but the best of luck… most people in PH live in ignorance about the crappiness that goes on

Hey OP, I am from Indonesia, and has a Chinese ancestry. I feel the same with you. Fortunately I moved to Europe last year, and I finally find some peace.

    Try r/phmigrate and r/IWantOut

Also just FYI, not all businesses need an agency to hire from the Philippines. You can be a direct hire as long as the company hasn’t hit the maximum 5 (in total since the beginning of time) direct hire Filipinos in the company. After 5, that’s when they need an agency.

Northern Filipinos look different from Southern Filipinos? Man, that’s BS! Get off your regionalist high horse. Natawa naman ako sayo nubayan.

But best of luck to you! I’m a TCK Filipino who went to uni in France. Maybe try the student route? Canada has it’s own set of problems atm but I’m sure you’ve heard it offers the path of least resistance from student to PR.
