Hey guys. I’m 25F. I was raised in the Middle East, Dubai/Bahrain and have had a fabulous life there. I moved to italy a couple of years ago and loved it way more than I liked the Middle East. It started to feel like home there. I’m a national of a horrible weak country so I don’t have the option to just pack my bags up and move.

My husband is American so I moved to America about 4 days ago but am finding it extremely hard to adjust. I’ve travelled here before but have not loved it as much so moving here permanently has been extremely challenging. I keep crying everyday no matter what I do, I’m struggling to adapt and fit in.

Any advice to overcome this?

Where in the US are you? Also raised in the Middle East, then worked there, and Europe, total of 34 years. Miss it like crazy but I’m American and in my current situation I need to be in the US. Been in the states a while and it hasn’t gotten better. As an expat I always advised people to give it a year, experience the seasons, etc. the only thing that’s gotten better is familiarity. I don’t get lost trying to get from A to B anymore and I’ve figured out doctors, hairdresser, etc. but it feels less like home than anywhere I’ve ever lived. Sorry I’m not more uplifting. Sending you a hug.

It’s definitely a tough! The convenience of the Middle East and the ease of Europe is just unbeatable to me and I think my biggest problem is that I compare a lot. I definitely want to give it a year though because when I first moved to Europe (I lived there for 3 years), it was so hard the first couple of months but what made it easy was that I was able to talk to my family back home very easily, play games with my brothers or just simply talk to people I worked with.

Right now, by the time I’m up, everyone’s gone and it kinda sucks haha. I’m in Pittsburgh right now!
