US/D dual citizen here. I am about to retire in the US and will start medicare. People are telling me that to continue qualifying for part B I need to live in or near the US. We are planning to travel quit a bit and maybe stay longer in some part of Europe if we enjoy it. Does that mean that I would have to travel back 2 or 3 times a year to not loose part B and be penalized thereafter? How do they know whether I am traveling or “living” e.g. in Germany? Appreciate any insight.

you keep part b as long as you pay for it, but it only covers services rendered inside the us. you probably wil want medigap insurance that covers overseas expenses.

You need to pay the Part B premium or else you won’t have access to that part of Medicare when you return to the US.

There is no requirement to travel back.
