Lots of pathetic comments here. Completely gaslit into thinking they get value for their taxes. The only place I know where this is true is Switzerland where the taxes are pretty low and you have a social safety net and excellent infrastructure. If it’s possible as a Danish citizen to be a tax resident nowhere when continously traveling then this combined with a US LLC is your easiest answer. If not then having a base in Dubai or some of Eastern Europe is probably best.
I don’t know any actual long-term nomad who is only making so little. If someone is just taking an extended gap year then it doesn’t matter much and it is better than blowing through savings. I would say median of people I know ~$5k with way, way higher upper-end.
Probably yes through an employer of record. You’ll pay their invoice and they take care of the employment and all that comes with it.
Lots of people do that, because they probably found a place that they often returned to during their travels. I’ve been based in Bangkok since covid. Now after 3 years I’ve got a strong itch to go full nomad again so I’ll do that soon. Probably slower paced overall, two months in Phuket first.
Uh, don’t think I ever had a roach in my condos in over 4 years in Thailand. Just an occasional gecko.

I would say quite a lot of nomads don’t drink, most people in hostels are young and on vacation trips.
You could also just have non-alcoholic drinks and still hang out with people drinking.
