  • It is pretty simple. Apply for expat job that provides relocation for you and family. If you have children, you either need a salary to afford the children schooling in international school (unless state school suffices), or have the company pay for it. They offer the job, pay your moving expenses and you leave.

On arrival, get your bank accounts open, get your kids in school or hire a nanny, and you are off to the races. Not too much more complicated than that. It is like a holiday with extra steps, except you never come back and you take two suitcases instead of one. And there is some extra admin. Most peoples issues moving overseas are emotional rather than logistical. They can do it easily if they are qualified, but they have problems leaving their family/home comforts to step into the unknown.

From the sounds of it in your case, you have put up a huge wall between step A (wanting to move abroad) and step B (doing actual physical job applications to make it happen). Don’t keep building that wall higher with all this anxiety. Just apply for roles and see what you get. You won’t be forced to take it if you have a change of heart, but who knows, it might just change your life.

  • Each application should take you 2-3 hours if you are personally tailoring your CV to each role and/or cover letter. The way you frame your experience and profile is going to need to be different for every employer.

If you’ve done hundreds of applications, chances are they’re low quality. In my entire working life I think I’ve done maybe 15 job applications, and I’ve worked in 3 countries (now in Thailand).

Apply for roles that you’re actually a good fit for, and absolutely perfect your CV. Don’t waste your time spamming companies.
