  • Yeah, so I don’t know how this would play out in France but my impression is labor law is very pro-employee. Probation does not necessarily mean “we can get rid of you for any cause” depending on the jurisdiction. And, even if legal, there is the chance of wrongful termination suit. And there are real damages here considering the family just moved. It’s a very bad look for the company. Keep in mind if the company gets sued they have to defend and that costs money. So there is a calculation to be made by the company on this as well even if they are likely to “win”.

    So that’s why I would definitely be seeking legal advice, not sign off on anything w/o advice, and potentially even keep working. It’s very very difficult to say w/o details.


  • I probably have more questions than answers on this one.

    But if you signed on as a local hire, then your restructuring should be under French labor law, so you should know your rights before you sign anything. In the country I work in (not FR), you basically have to sign off on being fired, so there is alot of incentive thrown at you to get you to sign as long as you know your rights.

    I can’t imagine this ending without some sort of comp for you all.
