I’m going to be moving from Scotland to the Netherlands some time in the next two years with my Dutch partner. I currently have a mortgage (my partner is not on it) and was wondering if anyone has ported a mortgage from one country to the next and how difficult they found it?

It makes sense for us to buy a place when we move because the price of renting is more than what I would get from letting my current apartment.

I don’t think you can do it internationally… but be keen to find out!

As a tip, if you open an account now with one of the big High Street banks, such as HSBC NatWest Lloyds, et cetera. When you leave the country you will have more options as they also do expert mortgages, and you might be able to work something out with them.

It’s just an idea, you would need to explore it .
