I moved to multiple EU countries without a job (however, I do have an EU passport). I ultimately ended up finding work but the initial start up costs were expensive. I think I spent about 10k my last move which included flights, months in an Airbnb, first months rent, deposit, and some basic furniture. The first time I only spend a few thousand but I was “roughing it” by staying in hostels and renting a pre-furnished room.
Living in your home country is like life on easy mode. Living abroad is like living life in medium mode.
For me, I didn’t feel challenged living in my home country. But moving abroad made a lot of aspects of life more challenging- it’s like a level of a game you’re continuously trying to pass.
I stayed abroad an extra year because of uncertain feelings. I think I was more unhappy after that extra year. I’m glad I stuck it out longer but I ultimately still wanted to return home at the end of the day.
Having an EU passport is truly a blessing. Lots of people would kill to have that! Take advantage of it. I did. I also have dual citizenship and have now lived in: Germany, Austria, Sweden and Spain!
Hawaii, but only during the pandemic. It was amazing. All these beautiful beaches to yourself without any tourists. I miss those days.
