I was born in America too, and i’m “white” but when I get that question I assume they’re inquiring about my family heritage, in which I say my family is originally from England. You could try something like that, some people just want to know what country your ancestors are from, and if you don’t know you could educate yourself and it’s really cool. It’s not that hard and it shows you care about your heritage.
