I mean CDIs are not that uncommon, but if you don’t have this permanent contract it’s such a struggle, even as a French person.

We definitely have racism (lots of it), even if it’s fairly different from US racism, fascism sounds very extreme for me tho (for now).

It’s ok to miss your home and your country. Us French people are not used to strong enthusiasm and positivity, we are a country of complainers (which can be good sometimes!) and quite cynical overall. I think americans are used to be more friendly to people they don’t know and you are also a lil bit louder which can turn some french people off.

I personally don’t mind and kinda love interacting with people that are more positive from time to time and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I’m sure if you join some clubs and stuff you could find likeminded people but at the end of the day if you feel too bad it’s not a failure ti give up and go back home. 5 years is already an incredible and sensible experience and your knowledge of french can be useful even back in the US :)
