Wow please be very careful biking in Louisiana except maybe in the central parts of New Orleans. I honestly think the best way to scratch that itch would be to get out into nature and wander. The outdoor experience in the US partly makes up for the shitty urban experience. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, and road-tripping are extremely popular, which is ironically one of the reasons everyone gets a huge, gas-guzzling car.
