Gosh darn it, I’ve definitely heard the most recent residency struggles have really ramped up since Erdogan “won” the last election 🙄 That’s geopolitics for you, the administration is more concerned about foreign influence than their own people. I have dual citizenship from a middle-income allied Balkan nation (so finger’s crossed that works in my favor) . . I don’t intend to disclose my U.S. citizenship lol

I assume in order to get permanent residency/citizenship for the one spouse, they have to be living in the U.S. for a few years (three to be exact) – hence being ‘forced’.
I think it genuinely depends on the couple. If a partner doesn’t make one feel excluded, then there’s no reason to feel the need to be in neutral territory. Also, it’s great to have a partner who knows the ropes in their home country already, making the family transition easier. That’s my take on it, obviously people will have varying opinions.

The language development goes as good as the parents are willing to invest. You have to make the decision to actively engage your children in your respective languages and stick to it (with modern technology and media, there’s no excuse anymore). No slacking off just because it’s easier to stick to the local language. The kids may ‘struggle’ a little initially, but that’s just an adjustment period, and they’ll get over it. Kids are far more resilient than we like to admit, it’s the adults who have the biggest challenge sticking to language development.
As an immigrant who was raised in this backwards hellhole called the U.S., I always tell people, if you’re coming from a third-world developing country with little economic prospects, then North America will feel like a leg-up. However, if you’re coming from an advanced developed economy??? Then it’s an overwhelming downgrade!
