My Spanish level is almost fluent. I’m able to hold long conversations with people on almost any topic. I’ve been to Monterrey, MX before and I love the culture.

Right now I work as a PhD-educated scientist in the US.

What are some things I need to keep in mind or be aware of if I want to move to Latin America? I’m considering Mexico or Colombia.

The main issue is visa and work permit. Do you have a skill that is so in demand that they can’t find local scientists to do the same work as you?

Having said that, if you want it bad enough I think you could.
