The main 3 countries ill be in are colombia, Brazil and Argentina.
Once i like an area then ill try and rent out a longer term apartment. Ill eat out once a day and rest would be cooking.
My life wouldn’t be too flashy. Mostly gym , going out here and there. Eating out once a day. Public transport. Travelling around the country etc Some fun here and there etc taking a girl out on a date somtimes to eat etc . I rarely drink alcohol,no drugs etc.
2100 usd monthly.
Thanks
COL. Cost of Living. Google. 🙃
Brazil is not really that expensive either, although it depends on how upscale you go. Anyway you can find a decent place for like 500 usd.
500 usd monthly? In brazil or which country are you talking about ?
Brazilian here. 500 usd can get you a really nice place if you go long term rental. I would not be so sure for short stays. I think it’s reasonable to expect 40 a day for a short stay rental.
yah for a rental
Like in a major city close by to things ?? And im assuming food and what not wouldn’t be too expensive right
yah for food a favoured meal of mine was contra-file executivo, i would get like a big piece of steak, two eggs, fries, rice and beans and then strawberry juice with milk like a smoothie plus coffee and that would be $10 (50 brl) pretty much anywhere in sao paulo. or you can get a smaller version (commercial) for less money.
they’re big on chicken parm. not much of a breakfast culture though which is a bit of a shame. brazilians just like a bit of coffee and maybe a meat pastry in the morning.
they also have these fun buffet places, except it’s not all you can eat, you pay per 100 grams. which is really a smart way of not encouraging over eating but still allowing you to pick and choose whatever you want to eat.
Awesome !!! Im glad 2100 is sufficient for Brazil too , as im r3ally keen on Brazil and if i really like it i may stay for a while
well legally you can only stay for like 3 months unless you get a visa. the way to do it is just bounce around between different south american countries every three months. 6 if u hit up peru.
just check out listings on facebook marketplace to get an idea. set your location to sao paulo and browse.
Is sao paulo similar price to rio de Janeiro?
Yes, very much possible.
In Colombia, you can have a menu-del-dia lunch for around $3. A nice-ish meal in a restaurant like Crepes y Waffles would be $10. I stayed in hostels, so not sure of Abnb prices.
In Argentina, its just as cheap - inflation is over 150% a year though so that’s brings a few practical problems, like menu prices literally changing every week. Great country, lovely people, and excellent steaks and red wine. Metro in Buenos Aires was ridiculously cheap at like 15 cents a ride.
In both countries, uber is cheap.
Not been to Brazil.
You’ll live like royalty on that budget.
Really , okay now im getting excited hahha
It’s true, locals I know make nowhere near that and they seem to be able to live just fine, though I know we don’t travel to live just like the locals lol
yes. you will be fine.
Step 1 - Check flight costs
Step 2 - Check rent costs
Step 3 - Check food prices
Step 4 - Add up all those amounts for the duration of your stay
Step 5 - Subtract that amount from your total amount
Step 6 - Is it positive or negative
To make a long story short, of course 2.1k is enough to live in the 3rd world. Hell people live on that in Europe.
It’s higher than the median individual income in like 3/4th of the US states
Travel can be way more expensive than just living.
just did a year in South America, went to every country except for Venezuela. More than half of my time was spent in Airbnbs and I moved around a lot which increases cost. Did the touristy things in each country and partied. That is a good budget and you’ll be able to do everything you listed + more. Enjoy! Brazil will be the most expensive and currently Argentina will be the cheapest if you get the blue dollar rate but that may change with the new president coming in.
I did this same trip but over the last 3 years. $2100’s not going to cut it.
I’d say you’d need $2500 to travel with friends. $3500 on your own. Minimum.
Yeah, that’s just not true. You could get by with less than $2k in Colombia if you wanted to.
I fhink this question is lifestyle dependent
Lets say $20 a day for food for 30 days $600 Op wants to eat out once a day
Airbnb = $600 for decent apartment
$350 for flights
So op is at $1550 a conservative end
This could go up if they want a nicer apartment etc
For what OP is looking at, they need $2500 minimum
It’s more than enough if you are single.
Yes I haven’t been to Brazil but depends i believe argentina and colombia you should be good at $65/day
Being 10 the finest you’ll be around a 7.5. A burger in carls jr is like $15usd.
So i guess id be living pretty good then at 7.5 lol
easily yes. i spent $2000 in a month in colombia and i was eating out every meal, taking taxis everywhere, and going out almost nightly. (tbf was staying in hostels, but apartments aren’t necessarily much more expensive)
I’m excited for you
Thank you
Depends, it could be quite close if you want to live in a gated community for safety.
Could even include some coke and hookers with that budget, papi.
coke may be cheaper than a cocktail i mean not maybe it is 100% cheaper
Yeah, spend that for 2 do in South America, sounds like you want to do what we mostly do daily. We did get a long term lease though. Short term rentals will be more, but probably can still budget. Depends on the city though. For example Medellin prices are high right now for apartments. Quito not so much.
