Any Canadiana no longer residents of Canada who have had to deal with death of parent back home?

Any advice?

My father passed a number of years ago and it took over a week for me to get home. Mom had him cremated and the memorial and service was held when I finally arrived Now though, I cannot be Mom’s executor nor POA so one of my cousins is appointed for that (we asked him first). He’ll defer to me verbally for decisions but on paper it’s his decision. Was the simplest solution we could find. Mom has her will set and her wishes are clear.

Not much else we can do to prepare and as I’ve been gone 30+ years, I legally can’t do anything
