I’m considering buying iPhone 15 in US and read that there’s no physical sim card slot, so it’s only e-sim.
Will this work in every country? Has anyone here been nomadding just with e-sims?
I want to make sure I want get caught out in a country with simply no ability to get a sim.
I don’t go anywhere too wild like Yemen, Afghanistan, etc.
But I like to visit countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Peru, Paraguay, etc.
Thanks for any help!
I have e-sims from different countries. Thailand, Philippines, Israel, European. You’ll be fine a lot now offers e-sims
I have a Google Pixel with my home country SIM in the slot and I only travel with eSIMs. Almost every country offers eSIMs but they are usually more expansive than the same data with a physical SIM. However I am willing to pay a bit more for convenience and if ever I need a physical SIM, I have a second phone so I do not need to remove the one from my Phone.
Have been in many countries in SEA, Vietnam and Thailand included and both of them have good eSIMs, especially Thailand.
Thanks. If I join I’ll use the code :)
Don‘t buy an eSim-only phone, if you don‘t have to. You will likely find a solution in most countries, but you will mostly pay a premium and you will at times be stuck with bad providers and you will loose a ton of convenience when you can‘t just get a Sim from the good provider with good plans just from the next corner store with a simple transaction anymore.
Thank you
Airalo now offers local phone number esims in addition to the data eSims but I have not tried it yet.
iPhone 15 outside the US has, I believe, a hardware SIM slot. I have a 12 with eSIM (up to eight) and a hardware slot. I haven’t used the hardware slot yet. I’ve gotten eSIMs everywhere and usually can download them before I leave the previous country.
I’m using an iPhone with eSIM in Peru as we speak. One from the home country and the other for Peru. I bought the eSIM on Maya and activated it with a QR code from my laptop. Did the same in Brazil and every other place
Don’t buy an esim only iPhone if you plan to travel. For example esims don’t exist in China I don’t think. You also may not be able to have a choice of mobile networks in a country that you may visit and be stuck with the one that offers an esim
